1.What is IPIRP?

IPIRP stands for Internet Point and Insurance Reduction Program. Initially known as PIRP, the IPIRP course is the same defensive driving course delivered in an online format.

Yes, we were the first course to be approved by the NY State DMV to offer Defensive Driving in NY via the Internet.


3.Does this course qualify for point reduction and insurance premium reduction?

Yes. This course will reduce your point total by up to four points, depending on when the points were assessed. It will also give you a mandatory 10% automobile insurance discount for 3 years.

This defensive driving course is a total of 6 hours. But, unlike the classroom course, you can log on and off and complete the course at your own pace.

6.Do I have to take a test at the end?

No. This course does not require you to pass a final exam to get your certificate.


7.How do I know I can qualify for point reduction?

You must have received the violation and points eighteen months before course completion. Points for earlier violations or future violations will not be affected.


8.How do I qualify for insurance premium reduction by taking the defensive driving course?

a. We will send you a certificate of completion when you graduate via the delivery method you choose. If you present this certificate of completion to your insurance company or agent within 90 days after course completion, your liability and collision premium reduction will begin immediately. This reduction will actually be retroactive to the date you completed the course.

b. If you present your certificate more than 90 days after course completion, your insurer could issue the premium discount effective from the date presented.


9.How often can I take this defensive driving course to reduce my insurance premium?

You may take the course once every 36 months to keep your insurance reduction benefits.


10.How does the I-PIRP course compare to the classroom course?

Both the classroom PIRP course and the I-PIRP course have very similar content and information, and both courses include 320 minutes of instruction. The classroom course is given in one daytime session or two evening sessions. You can take this online course from home, at a convenient time for you. You can take the I-PIRP course at your own speed within the 30-day period.


11.Can more than one person on the same insurance policy receive a discount for taking the course?

The discount can be applied to only one driver for each covered vehicle. The insurance reduction applies to all motor vehicles principally operated by the motorist who completes the course.


12.How does the DMV know I have taken the course?

Certificate of Completion will be sent to them after you have completed the course.
